2026 Summer Intern - Genetic Medicine Technology: Precision Gene Editing Team
Genentech is a leader in biotechnology, and they are seeking a Summer Intern for their Precision Gene Editing Team within the Genetic Medicine Technology group. The role involves supporting the design and construction of enzyme variants using molecular biology techniques and performing analytical assays to evaluate engineered transposase candidates.
BiotechnologyLife ScienceManufacturing
Responsibilities
Support the design and construction of enzyme variants using molecular biology techniques such as Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate cloning, and site-directed mutagenesis
Assist in routine molecular biology tasks, including PCR, restriction digestion, plasmid DNA purification (mini/maxi-preps), and sequence verification to support the iterative building of transposase variants
Utilize non-viral delivery methods, including nucleofection and other transfection techniques, to introduce novel gene-insertion tools (transposases, recombinases, or nucleases) into mammalian cell lines and execute cell-based assays to evaluate their efficiency
Perform standard analytical assays—such as ddPCR for copy number determination or flow cytometry—to characterize the performance of engineered transposase candidates
Utilize computational tools and structural biology data to analyze experimental results, helping to refine design strategies and predict the performance of engineered protein variants
