Responsibilities
Own the performance, availability, and scalability of SQL Server databases running on AWS RDS and EC2
Support SQL Server HA/DR, including AGs, backups, restores, and failover readiness
Manage the performance, availability, and scalability of SQL Server databases running on AWS RDS and EC2
Perform advanced performance tuning (execution plans, indexing, Query Store, blocking/deadlocks)
Design and maintain backup and recovery strategies aligned to RPO/RTO objectives
Partner with application and platform teams to embed SQL Server best practices into application design and deployments
Design, implement, and support SQL Server replication
Automate database operations using T-SQL, PowerShell, or Bash
Contribute to database IaC using CloudFormation and/or Terraform
Implement database security, encryption, access controls, and compliance requirements
Experience with Datadog or similar observability platforms
Qualification
Required
5+ years of hands-on experience administering SQL Server in AWS (RDS and/or EC2) in production
Deep expertise in SQL Server performance tuning, AGs, and HA/DR
Experience operating SQL Server in AWS-managed environments supporting mission-critical systems
Proficiency in T-SQL and PowerShell for automation and troubleshooting
Experience with database observability and alerting tools (Datadog or similar)
Experience reviewing or contributing to infrastructure-as-code for database platforms (CloudFormation and/or Terraform)
Preferred
Exposure to PostgreSQL or DynamoDB
Familiarity with AI-assisted observability or anomaly detection tools
Experience contributing to database SLO/SLI definitions
