Responsibilities

Represent Tulare County in state and federal courts and administrative tribunals
Handle motion practice, discovery, trials, and appeals
Advise County departments on compliance, liability, and risk management
Respond to subpoenas and writ proceedings
Participate in administrative hearings
Help shape strategies that protect public resources and uphold the County’s legal integrity

Required

Active membership in the State Bar of California is required
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license is required
No experience required for ATTORNEY I. Some experience demonstrating familiarity with the practice of public law is desirable
One to two years of full-time experience in the practice of civil law for ATTORNEY II, preferably with one year of public civil law experience or one year of full-time experience with a public civil law agency
Three years of full-time experience in the practice of public civil law for ATTORNEY III; or two years of full-time experience with a public civil law agency
Four years of full-time experience with a public civil law agency for ATTORNEY IV; or five years of full-time experience in the practice of public civil law. Lead experience required. Supervisory experience highly desirable
Five years of full-time experience with a public civil law agency for ATTORNEY V; or six years of full-time experience in the practice of public civil law. Lead experience required. Supervisory experience highly desirable
