Mechanical Design Engineering Intern
Terrestrial Energy is a US developer of advanced, Generation IV nuclear reactors. They are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern to aid the Mechanical Design team in the design, development, and analysis of mechanical systems.

Responsibilities
Prepare & edit calculations, analysis and assessment documents for the development of system and equipment design
Conduct research for design development and optimization
Facilitate communication and work with various technical disciplines to understand system design(s) and interfacing requirements
Coordinate and interface with the plant layout lead in the development of 3D CAD for the responsible mechanical systems
Assist in the development of design specifications to align with project requirements and industry standards
Contribute to timely resolution of mechanical design challenges and address risks
Participate in design review meetings to provide input, feedback, and support for design validation and improvement
Coordinate and support work with other disciplines
Conduct presentations to interdisciplinary team and external parties
Interface with external vendors, experts and design agencies
Exposure to nuclear, thermal, mechanical analysis and design of systems and components in relation to the reactor system
Exposure to reactor engineering design and analysis in neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, and/or radiation for steady state and transient conditions, including transport and Monte Carlo methods
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
Academic, co-op, or project experience involving mechanical design, analysis, prototyping, testing, or technical documentation
Exposure to industry tools, lab equipment, or engineering workflows through coursework, student projects, or internships
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles (e.g., statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, materials, fluid mechanics)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
Clear technical writing and documentation skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Willingness to learn and take initiative
Effective communication skills within a technical team environment
Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines
Have US market experience and perspectives bringing good judgement and innovative approaches to problem solving and business plan execution
Have demonstrated exceptional performance in past engineering projects
Offer exceptional leadership and team building capabilities
Have a deep understanding of the requirements for advanced reactor development
Can assist in the creation of the discipline and organized company structure, and contributed to a culture of excellence, necessary for the development and deployment of the Company's IMSR plant

Preferred
Demonstrated success in project delivery and the execution of design methods
Demonstrated passion for nuclear and/or reducing carbon emissions
Entrepreneurship or other experience demonstrating self-motivation and problem solving
Experience with or knowledge of nuclear power
Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, NX, or similar) is an asset
Familiarity with data analysis tools or simulation/FEA tools (e.g., MATLAB, ANSYS) is considered an asset
