Intern, R&D Undergraduate Summer - Synthesis and Catalysis, Onsite
Sandia National Laboratories is the nation’s premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation. We are seeking a summer intern to work on a project related to the synthesis, characterization, and catalysis related to biofuels synthesis, organometallic synthesis, and CO2 activation and catalysis.

Responsibilities
Develop new homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts for selective bond activation
Synthesize and characterize fuels and catalysis products
Perform experiments and general laboratory support functions
Perform synthesis and characterization of air-sensitive materials and composites, review and assessment of literature data for incorporation in databases
Assist with sample preparation for spectroscopy, diffraction, and electron microscopy experiments at Sandia and at DOE User Facilities
Qualification
Required
Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate program
Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S
Preferred
Enrolled in an engineering, mathematics or physical sciences program
Familiarity with office software and graphic presentation of data
Some experience with chemical synthesis procedures or characterization of materials
Self-motivated and able to follow direction and work independently
