Policy & Compliance Specialist

The State of South Dakota is seeking a qualified individual to fill a key position as a member of the Transition Team within the Division of Developmental Disabilities. This role is responsible for the development and administration of human services programs, ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities while promoting choice and self-determination in their communities.

Responsibilities

Develop and administer human services programs within DDD, including establishing high-acuity supports and strategies and providing technical assistance
Work directly with Community Support Providers, systemic partners, and other stakeholders to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of program participants
Promote choice and self-determination by ensuring individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have meaningful options and opportunities to be active participants and contributing members of their communities

Required

a high level of experience working within the ID/DD support services field
experience in social work, psychology, business/public administration, or other human service-related fields
knowledge of disability practices
knowledge of person-first language
knowledge of person-centered practices
knowledge of services and supports for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
knowledge of best practices in positive behavioral supports, behavior intervention practices
knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to developmental disabilities
skills in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word
ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships within DDD as well as with stakeholders
ability to demonstrate compassion, respect, courtesy, and tact in all interactions
ability to communicate information clearly, effectively, and accurately
ability to interpret and implement state and federal rules and regulations pertaining to developmental disabilities
ability to assume initiative and willingness for continuous learning
ability to exhibit sound decision-making in the performance of assigned responsibilities
ability to effectively plan and organize work activities, adjust to multiple demands and prioritize tasks to complete assignments with a high level of quality within established timeframes
ability to adapt approach or content of communication to the needs of the audience
ability to work closely with other DDD employees to effectively and efficiently complete assigned work
ability to assume initiative with minimal supervision
ability to frequently travel within the state and occasionally out of state

Preferred

experience in social work, psychology, business/public administration, or other human service-related fields
