This internship provides hands-on experience in cybersecurity, information systems, and network administration disciplines directly supporting DHSTO’s mission.

Responsibilities
Work within the DHSTO Information Systems team supporting secure network and system operations
Assist in network configuration, management, and security hardening
Participate in vulnerability assessments, patching, and incident response efforts
Support compliance initiatives aligned with DoD cybersecurity frameworks and 8140 proficiency standards
Gain exposure to cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) and SIEM tools such as Splunk
Assist with developing and maintaining security documentation, reports, and risk analyses
Apply analytical reasoning, communication, and adaptability in a mission-critical environment
Qualification
Required
Must be a current active-duty U.S. service member within 365–180 days of separation or retirement
Must meet all eligibility requirements of the DoD SkillBridge program and obtain command approval prior to start date
Must be a U.S. Citizen
At least four years of experience in cybersecurity, information technology, system administration, or a related technical field
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical teams
Analytical and problem-solving skills with an ethical and mission-focused mindset
Preferred
Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems and associated security configurations
Experience with cybersecurity tools such as SIEM, SOAR, EDR, or vulnerability scanning platforms
Understanding of network protocols, intrusion detection, and incident response methods
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
CompTIA Security+ certification (preferred)
CASP+ or CISSP certification (beneficial but not required)
Meets or working toward DoD 8140.03 cybersecurity proficiency standards
