The NJ Department of Environmental Protection is seeking an Environmental Specialist 3 to supervise and organize technical or scientific work related to environmental enforcement and control. The role involves managing projects, conducting investigations, and providing education on sustainability efforts.

Responsibilities

Takes the lead or may supervise, organize and assign technical or scientific work, including field and office studies, surveys, inspections or investigations associated with the enforcement of laws and/or regulations and environmental review and control work
Organizes and makes tests and reports to assess Environmental impacts to include the physical, natural, and/or human environment
Investigates environmental complaints concerning projects
Conducts or supervises the processing of contract, grant and/or loan applications
Supervise the implementation of new legislation and rule promulgation efforts for new legislation
Supervise the research and analysis of upcoming hot topics in sustainability
Provide education and outreach efforts related to food waste reduction and recycling, reduction of plastics and recycled content mandates

Required

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Environmental Planning, Physical Geography or in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering
Three (3) years of experience in environmental control work including field investigations, inspection, and preparing reports on the environment or the preparation or review of Environmental Impact Statements
All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position

Preferred

Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and staff
Experience in managing rulemaking procedures and the implementation of newly enacted legislation
Strong oral and written communication skills
