Engineering Assistant III- Flexible Pavements Section-Materials and Tests Division

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Assistant III for their Flexible Pavements Section within the Materials and Tests Division. This role involves performing engineering work, including training less experienced staff, conducting construction inspections, and preparing for professional engineering licensing.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Trains less experienced engineering assistants, specialists and technicians
Actively prepares for professional engineering licensing/registration through appropriate training and exams and completion/maintenance of required documentation
Applies engineering principles, methods and techniques to a wide variety of transportation-related activities
Participates in Career Development for the Engineering Assistants program which includes job rotation, training and continuing education
Performs construction inspection and material sampling/testing
Performs research and problem solving of engineering-related problems
Reviews engineering work for calculation errors and compliance with applicable federal and state laws and industry standards and guidelines
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Required

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
2 years of engineering related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent)
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Texas Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT)

Preferred

Considerable knowledge of applicable governmental laws, rules and regulations specific to area of responsibility for safeguarding information and information technology related systems
Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and regulations
Considerable knowledge of applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
Considerable knowledge of applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques
Considerable knowledge of materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance
Expert Skill In applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities
Proficient skill in collecting, sorting and compiling data
Proficient skill in leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
Proficient skill in maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; make decisions that support business objectives and goals
