Deputy District Attorney II-IV (Special Prosecutions)
NEOGOV is seeking Deputy District Attorneys at the II, III, and IV levels for the Riverside County District Attorney's Office. The role involves prosecuting criminal cases related to organized retail theft and civil consumer fraud, along with other related duties, requiring strong legal knowledge and courtroom skills.

Responsibilities
Investigates, researches, and prepares all types of cases for prosecution; presents and prosecutes cases before all courts within the State
Interviews and advises law enforcement officers and the public in regard to the issuance of criminal complaints; acts as a senior deputy for cases in branch Municipal Courts; negotiates with the defense regarding the disposition or modification of charges in cases
Performs legal research in specialized areas of prosecution; studies, interprets, and applies statutes, ordinances, court decisions, and legal opinions
Assist in the training and supervision of other deputies
Act for higher level deputies in their absence; dictates correspondence and prepares reports
Coordinate the work of support personnel
Qualification
Required
Active membership in the State Bar of California
Possession of a valid California Driver's License
Must be able to pass an extensive background check
One year of experience at the Deputy District Attorney I level with the District Attorney's office of Riverside County or one year of experience in the practice of law for Deputy District Attorney II
One year of experience as a Deputy District Attorney II in Riverside County or in an equivalent class with another government agency or two years of experience in the practice of criminal law or three years of experience in the practice of law for Deputy District Attorney III
One year of experience as a Deputy District Attorney III in Riverside County, or in an equivalent class in the office of another prosecuting attorney in California for Deputy District Attorney IV
Legal principles and their application; California statutory and case law; the rules of evidence and the conduct of court proceedings; the duties, powers, limitations, and authority of the District Attorney's Office; the methods, procedures, and practices of prosecution; professional ethics in the practice of law
Analyze complex legal problems and apply legal principles and practices; present facts, arguments, and laws clearly and logically in written and oral form; perform legal research; work cooperatively with others
Preferred
Significant experience in related special litigation, including but not limited to criminal jury trials, grand jury work, statewide civil litigation, State Bar or judicial council investigation/litigation

MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT: County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).
ANNUAL LEAVE (Bi-Weekly Accrual): 0 < 36 months = 8.92 Hours 36 to <108 months = 10.46 Hours 108 or more months = 12.00 Hours Maximum Annual leave accumulation is 2,080 hours. Employee may receive pay in lieu of up to 40 hours per calendar year. Agency/Department Head may approve an additional 40 hours.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
401(a) MONEY PURCHASE PLAN: County contribution of $50 per pay period towards choice between two 401(a) plan providers.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 days can be taken through use of accrued leave balances)
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD): Benefit pays 66.67% of earnings to a maximum of $10,000 per month; 30-day waiting period; pays to age 65. Benefit can be coordinated with other available leave balances to provide up to 100% of pay.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the Management Resolution or applicable bargaining unit.
