The City of Madison Parks Division is hiring Assistant Golf Professionals and Lead Assistant Golf Professionals for the 2026 golf season. These roles are responsible for managing clubhouse operations at City of Madison golf courses, ensuring a positive guest experience through effective daily operations and staff supervision.

Responsibilities

Provide Customer Service
Serve as the primary point of contact for golfers at a 9-hole course. Maintain a professional, friendly presence and resolve routine customer concerns related to tee times, pace of play, cart usage, and facility services
Oversee daily pro shop operations including:
Checking in golfers
Processing payments
Managing phones and reservations
Maintaining the tee sheet appropriate for a 9-hole layout
Assist with small-scale leagues, outings, and community events specific to a 9-hole course. Coordinate logistics such as cart staging, signage, scorecards, and basic food and beverage needs. Work closely with the Outings and Events Coordinator for execution support
Perform the majority of POS transactions for the facility, prepare daily deposits, and ensure accurate financial documentation
Oversee Attendants and seasonal staff assigned to the 9-hole course
Assist with scheduling within established labor budgets
Provide training, oversight, and day-to-day direction
Address minor performance or conduct issues and escalate to supervisor as appropriate
Assist with basic merchandising, cart management, janitorial tasks, and food and beverage support as needed
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Golf Clubhouse Leadworker and Golf Clubhouse Supervisor
Act as the lead on-site representative for the facility, setting service expectations and resolving escalated guest concerns. Ensure a consistently high-quality customer experience across all clubhouse touchpoints
Oversee daily clubhouse operations including:
Tee sheet management for an 18-hole course
Golf shop operations and merchandising standards
Food and beverage coordination
Outside services and cart fleet readiness
Opening and closing procedures
Lead execution of medium- to large-scale leagues, outings, and tournaments. Coordinate staffing, logistics, cart staging, scoring materials, and on-site issue resolution. Serve as the primary facility contact during events
Directly oversee Attendants, Food and Beverage Servers, and other seasonal staff assigned to the 18-hole course
Develop and manage staff schedules aligned with labor budgets and demand
Provide daily direction, coaching, and accountability
Train staff on customer service standards, POS systems, and operational procedures
Assist with onboarding, evaluations, and corrective action as needed
Act as a mentor and development resource for Assistant Golf Professional (AP) staff
Oversee cash handling procedures and verify daily deposits
Review POS reports, sales data, and operational metrics
Assist with inventory control, ordering, and merchandising decisions
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and revenue performance
Assist with enterprise initiatives and projects as assigned
Serve as acting facility lead in the absence of the Clubhouse Leadworker
Perform additional duties as directed by the Golf Operations Supervisor
Perform other related duties related to clubhouse operations

Required

One (1) year of experience in golf operations, hospitality, retail, food and beverage, or a related customer-service field for Assistant Golf Professional
Ability to provide basic supervision and direction to part-time or seasonal staff
Ability to use Point of Sale (POS) systems and handle cash transactions
Two (2) years of experience in golf operations, hospitality, retail, or a food and beverage setting that included leadership responsibilities for Lead Assistant Golf Professional
Demonstrated experience supervising staff (full-time, part-time, or seasonal) for Lead Assistant Golf Professional
Experience working in a customer-facing, high-volume environment for Lead Assistant Golf Professional
Proficiency with Point of Sale (POS) systems and cash handling procedures for Lead Assistant Golf Professional
Wisconsin Responsible Server Certification
City of Madison Operator's License
Ability to meet the transportation requirements of the position
Employees will be expected to work evenings and weekends for leagues, special events, and as otherwise required
Employees are expected to physically access all City of Madison golf courses and facilities
Ability to lift 35 pounds
Ability to work on uneven terrain
Ability to work in various weather conditions and be exposed to pollen, dust, grass clippings, fertilizers, etc
Ability to use golf carts

Preferred

Registered PGA apprentice/affiliation/membership status
