Civil Engineer (Transportation) - Survey Unit
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a passionate Civil Engineer to join the Department of Transportation (PennDOT) in the Survey Unit. The role involves designing and improving transportation infrastructure, assisting in roadway design, and collaborating with engineers and project managers on various transportation initiatives.

Responsibilities
Assist the Chief of Surveys by performing engineering work in support of roadway design, right-of-way development, and survey-based engineering plan review
Utilize engineering software to develop roadway alignments to ensure alignment accuracy, minimum curve radius, and grade consistency with current design standards
Review Line, Grade, and Typical Section (LGTS) submissions to confirm that roadway geometry, drainage, and guiderail layouts meet design requirements and constructability standards
Review in-house right-of-way plans to verify property plots and ensure compliance with PennDOT policies and design criteria
Prepare engineering correspondence, review comments, and documentation related to plan evaluations, consultant submissions, and technical findings
Collaborate with in-house design squads to provide engineering input on survey data integration, geometric alignment, and plan accuracy
Employ sound engineering practices and principles in order to make informed decisions and judgments related to the completion of work assignments
Qualification
Required
Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; or
Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
This position requires possession of a valid driver's license
