OCS- Lead Vehicle Mechanic

Oldham County Schools is seeking a Lead Vehicle Mechanic to ensure the safest school bus transportation possible and maintain quality control. The role involves performing preventive maintenance inspections, supervising vehicle maintenance technicians, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Education Management

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance safety inspections and re-inspections on district owned and contracted vehicles as assigned
Assist Service Manager in the following procedures: Contact drivers whose buses are due for their scheduled monthly safety inspection
Initiate work order on inspection buses as they are turned in for monthly inspections
Place red out-of-service tags on steering wheels of buses that are turned in for inspection
The assignment of spare buses, including accurately entering the assigned buses in the Sub-Bus Assignment spreadsheet
Assist Service Manager with supervising and working with vehicle maintenance technicians in the diagnosing and repair of the bus fleet and all other district vehicles
Assist Service Manager in verifying all vehicles maintained or inspected by transportation staff are in safe operating condition
Assist Service Manager in verifying all vehicle maintenance technicians follow manufactures diagnostic and repair procedures
Support Service Manager in establishing an efficient and effective preventive maintenance program to include the bus fleet and all other district vehicles
Promotes high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas
Discuss with the bus drivers repairs and mechanical problems
Assist Service Manager in assuring all vehicle maintenance records are kept in compliance with state law and district polices
Promptly reports to the Service Manager and Office Manager any job-related injuries
Promptly reports to the Service Manager any unsafe conditions encountered in the garage working environment which would potentially endanger any of the transportation staff
Know the procedure involving: Accidents, Break Downs, Emergency Sickness, Job Injury, Wrecker Service, Vendors, Bids, State and County Laws and Regulations, Route book, Office procedures
Other duties as assigned by the Service Manager
Act as Service Manager in his/her absence

State Approved School Bus InspectorMaster ASE School Bus CertificationAutoBus mechanicsGeneral supervisory skills

Required

High school graduate
General supervisory skills
Experience in auto and bus mechanics
State Approved School Bus Inspector
Master ASE School Bus Certification
Commercial Driver's License Class B with Passenger Endorsement (May acquire after obtaining position)
Must be able to lift, push or pull 40 pounds and also be able to bend at the waist, kneel and reach above your head
