Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team of security engineers focused on securing Avalara's cloud infrastructure, platform, and SaaS services
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and direction to staff and Engineering teams
Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and container scanning tooling to support secure CI/CD processes
Own the deployment and operational maturity of Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) solutions to continuously monitor configuration risks in public cloud
Drive the implementation of Privileged Access Management (PAM) and identity governance controls in Avalara's cloud platform
Provide expert guidance on threat modelling, vulnerability management, and security best practices across all areas of SDLC to Engineering
Manage the execution of complex, multi-team security projects with clear milestones, metrics, and outcomes
Qualification
Required
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
12+ years of total experience, including 5+ years in cloud or infrastructure security, and 3–5 years in a technical leadership role
Expertise in cloud platform security (AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI), container security, service mesh and IaC technologies
Experience designing and integrating security tooling into CI/CD pipelines and SDLC workflows
Development background using Golang and Python
