Responsibilities

Serve as a subject-matter expert in power transformer design, performance, testing, and failure analysis
Provide technical guidance on transformer applications, specifications, losses, impedance, thermal performance, insulation systems, and testing requirements
Support interpretation and application of IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and customer-specific standards
Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex customer quality issues, test failures, or field performance concerns
Support customer technical reviews, audits, and engineering discussions as a trusted Virginia Transformer expert
Participate in root cause investigations for significant field issues or warranty events, providing expert technical analysis
Lead or support advanced root cause analysis related to transformer performance, testing anomalies, or quality escapes
Review and assess non-conformances from a technical risk perspective, recommending corrective actions that address root causes rather than symptoms
Identify systemic technical risks and recommend preventive actions to Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams
Serve as an internal authority on evolving utility standards, specifications, and industry best practices
Review customer specifications and technical requirements for quality and compliance risks
Support internal alignment on interpretation of standards across engineering, quality, and test functions
Partner with Engineering, Test Labs, Field Service, Sales, and Quality teams to resolve technically complex issues
Provide technical input for new product introductions, design changes, and process improvements
Support training and knowledge transfer for engineers, quality leaders, and test personnel
Prepare clear, defensible technical reports related to investigations, customer issues, and quality findings
Support responses to customer inquiries, audit findings, and regulatory or third-party technical reviews
Contribute to continuous improvement of technical documentation, standards interpretation guides, and internal best practices

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field
15+ years of experience in power transformers, power systems engineering, or transformer applications
Deep technical knowledge of power transformer design, testing, and performance
Strong working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and utility specifications
Experience supporting customer technical issues, audits, or field investigations
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred

Experience as a senior application engineer, power systems consultant, or utility-facing technical expert
Exposure to factory test operations and test failure analysis
Experience supporting large utility customers or EPC projects
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Prior experience in a customer-facing technical or advisory role
