Adjunct Instructor - Biology
City Colleges of Chicago is seeking part-time faculty to teach biology courses at Wilbur Wright College. The Adjunct Instructor will create an effective learning environment, design courses with clear learning outcomes, and evaluate student performance while fostering inclusivity and engagement in the classroom.

Responsibilities
Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies
Designs courses that have clearly articulated learning outcomes that are student centered and promote students’ active participation in their own learning
Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and student learning outcomes
Develops and designs an assessment program that includes regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly
Commits to engaging and improving upon behavioral commitments that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging amongst students
Stays abreast of innovations and current trends in one’s specific academic discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology and continuously reflect on and refine their craft
Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process
Fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn
Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes
Teaches in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college
Qualification
Required
Any Master's Degree or higher in the life sciences field. Life sciences fields include but are not limited to: Animal Science, Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Bioengineering, Botany, Cell Biology, Ecology, Environmental Biology, Field Biology, Genetics, Human Biology, Ichthyology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, MD, Mycology, Nutrition, Ornithology, and Zoology
Excellent verbal and written skills required with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy
The ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment
Has a disposition towards developing the competencies outlined in the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars
Proficiency in Microsoft office applications
Preferred
Teaching experience at the college level preferred
Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college
Knowledge of Brightspace or similar Learning Management System preferred
Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification preferred
Submission of additional information, including but not limited to a statement of teaching philosophy and/or letters of recommendation, is optional
