They are seeking an OPS Biological Scientist III to work in the Overdose Data to Action program, focusing on data analysis to inform public health initiatives and community health efforts.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Conducts data analysis using established tools and techniques to extract insights from healthcare and public health datasets
Creates clear and effective data visualizations, such as charts and graphs, to communicate findings to stakeholders
Ensures data accuracy and reliability by implementing basic quality assurance procedures
Develops and produces routine reports and summaries based on public health data for internal and external stakeholders
Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including healthcare professionals and data experts, to support public health initiatives and projects
Maintains documentation of data analysis processes, data sources, and methodologies used for future reference
Adheres to data security protocols and assists in safeguarding sensitive healthcare and public health data
Stays informed about industry trends and emerging technologies related to public health informatics through continuous learning and training
Contributes to the development and dissemination of local level opioid-related reports to public health partners
Deliver engaging oral and written presentations to health department employees and the community, contributing to public health education
Develop GIS mapping based on surveillance data, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the epidemiological landscape
Actively participate in teleconferences, EpiCom, and various meetings to share regional and state information
Collaborate with community healthcare providers to ensure awareness of current reporting requirements for communicable diseases

Required

Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours, or days in the event of an emergency
Willing to physically come in the office to perform the duties & responsibilities of the positions
Bachelor's degree in a health-related field from an accredited college or university
Experience performing duties related to data informatics and analysis

Preferred

One (1) or more years of experience conducting epidemiological case investigations
One (1) or more years of experience with/knowledge of using R, SAS, SQL, or ArcGIS
One (1) or more years of experience using ESSENCE
One (1) or more years of experience with/knowledge of conducting statistical modeling and interpreting results in a public health context
One (1) or more years of experience with providing written and verbal presentations, including translating complex data findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences
