Structural Engineer
GFT is a privately held AEC firm seeking a Structural Engineer to join their Building and Places Group in New York City, NY. The role involves leading structural design and rehabilitation efforts for various clients while ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Responsibilities
Develop comprehensive structural drawings with clarity and precision, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards, utilizing Revit, AutoCAD, and MicroStation
Perform engineering calculations using both software tools and hand calculations to analyze and design structural elements such as beams, columns, and foundations
Conduct gravity and lateral system analysis for low- to mid-rise building projects
Evaluate and analyze existing structures for retrofits and rehabilitations
Conduct field inspections for facilities and transit-related structures as required
Utilize industry-standard software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, STAAD, Mathcad, and TEDDS for structural analysis and design
Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a professional and productive manner
Engage in client interactions by participating in meetings to understand project requirements, present design solutions, and address any concerns
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis
Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or a Master's in Structural Engineering
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
A minimum of 2 plus years of structural design experience
Proficiency in structural analysis and design using both engineering software and hand calculations (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, STAAD)
Experience with structural drafting and detailing in AutoCAD, Revit, and MicroStation
Solid understanding of building codes and industry standards (e.g., AISC, ACI, ASCE, etc.)
Strong attention to detail with excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
Effective written and verbal communication abilities
Valid driver's license required
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to obtain New York and New Jersey licenses
