Responsibilities

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with leaders and staff at all levels within the organization to support daily continuous improvement and the development and compliance with standard work processes
Provide/facilitate education and training on Lean Management System (LMS) and continuous improvement methodology and provide coaching for departments to meet their goals and objectives
Support/facilitate initiatives to redesign care processes that cross departmental boundaries working closely with an organizational leader who is the executive sponsor
Consult with organizational leaders to identify potential projects involving cross-departmental processes and develop project proposals. Develop approved projects and project timelines in accordance with the charters and project plans and ensure that key metrics are defined, developed, tracked and re-evaluated to promote accountability and sustainability of results
Establish system-wide processes/tools to monitor the continued advancement of a Lean Management System (LMS) and identify areas where there is a lack of LMS and provide additional coaching support and organizational visibility related to the current gaps and opportunities for improvement
Deliver clear and concise communications (verbal and written) to support the continued development and advancement of a Lean Management System
Maintain knowledge of applicable regulatory and organizational policies that need to be incorporated into project assessment, planning, updates and reports in an effort to maintain compliance with established policies/regulations. Identify policies that need to be modified based on improvements in standard work processes
Participate as an advisor in various committees or work groups related to continuous improvement initiatives
Collaborate with program/service line leaders that oversee programmatic improvement initiatives to ensure use of a consistent methodology, tools, and use of coaching techniques
Assist departments with changes to their current processes, documentation of standard work for key processes, and use of daily accountability tools
Maintain proficiency in training of adult learners and remain current with health care trends and use of Toyota Production System and Lean Management tools
Conduct an annual assessment of the current status and deployment of a Lean Management System and assist in the development of departmental goals and strategies to advance the culture of continuous improvements
Identify potential research areas and assist operations personnel to utilize research strategies in the promotion of clinical knowledge development and research-based clinical practice
Serve as a resource to University of Pennsylvania Health System performance improvement initiatives
Assist in the design of new processes/facilities utilizing a design for six sigma methodology and tools

Required

Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis using Microsoft Excel
Experience with leading and coaching A3s to improve key performance indicators
Minimum of 2 years leading and/or participating in performance improvement initiatives including project management experience
Knowledge and experience in quality improvement models, particularly Lean, Six Sigma, Toyota Production System (TPS), or IHI Model for Improvement – either within the healthcare or manufacturing environment
Experience providing training, instructional programs, or individual/group facilitation appropriate for adult learners and the ability to relate to leaders and staff of various ages, skills, and educational background

Preferred

Master's Degree
American Society for Quality (ASQ) Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) within six (6) months of hire. Employees hired prior to August 1, 2020 have until August 31, 2021 to obtain their Six Sigma Green Belt
Thorough knowledge and experience with adult education principles, curriculum development, program evaluation techniques, tool development and logistics preferred
Experience within an organization utilizing Lean as a management system for driving continuous daily improvements
