Responsibilities
Design and implement NLP pipelines to structure unstructured operational text data (e.g., tickets, notes, descriptions)
Develop predictive ML models to assess risk, prioritize work, or support operational decision-making
Produce explainable model outputs, including key drivers and reason codes appropriate for non-technical users
Validate model outputs with SMEs and incorporate feedback through iterative refinement
Define and track success metrics aligned to business value, not just model performance
Explore and assess large, complex enterprise datasets across multiple operational systems
Engineer features from structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data sources
Collaborate on contextual and geospatial feature development where applicable
Identify data quality issues, linkage gaps, and modeling limitations early
Build and train models using Google Cloud services (e.g., BigQuery, Vertex AI, Cloud Storage)
Partner with data engineering to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant data pipelines
Support transition from exploratory notebooks to MVP-ready, repeatable workflows
Contributes to model monitoring, retraining strategies, and auditability requirements
Translate product requirements into technical modeling approaches
Work with engineers to integrate models into downstream tools and workflows
Communicate trade-offs, limitations, and insights clearly to both technical and business stakeholders
Support documentation and knowledge transfer as solutions mature
Qualification
Required
6+ years of experience in applied data science or machine learning
Strong proficiency in Python and common ML/NLP libraries
Demonstrated experience delivering end-to-end ML solutions from problem framing through validation
Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, including: BigQuery, Vertex AI (or equivalent managed ML services), Cloud Storage
Experience working with unstructured text data and feature extraction
Strong understanding of model explainability and responsible AI principles
Comfort working with imperfect, real-world enterprise data
Preferred
Experience in utilities, energy, infrastructure, construction, or other asset-intensive industries
Familiarity with geospatial analytics or spatial feature engineering
Experience linking data across multiple enterprise systems
Prior experience delivering POCs that progress into MVPs or production systems
Experience working in regulated or audit-sensitive environments
