Water Quality Standards Program Manager
NEOGOV is part of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, which is responsible for protecting the state’s air, land, and water. The Water Quality Standards Program Manager will manage the operation and implementation of the Water Quality Standards Program within the Surface Water Division, ensuring compliance with regulations and leading various water quality initiatives.

Responsibilities
Conduct the Triennial Review of Water Quality Standards as required by the Clean Water Act
Develop Water Quality Criteria and/or Water Quality Targets/Goals and Review New/Revised Water Quality Criteria Recommendations
Set Designated Uses for waterbodies through the Triennial Review process
Review water effects ratios, mixing zone studies, and antidegredation reports for compliance with state regulations
Maintain a high level of expertise and understanding of regulations, policies, guidance, and procedures for developing water quality standards
Serve as lead project officer and technical lead for contracts involving the Water Quality Standards program, including developing scopes of work, providing technical guidance, tracking progress, and coordinating contract technical issues and oversight
Coordinate with other branches within the Surface Water Division and other water-related groups within MDEQ
Serve as an essential MDEQ contact for EPA coordination on Water Quality Standards Program needs
Qualification
Required
The ability to adapt quickly to situations, identify problems and propose solutions, and effectively communicate with consultants, program staff, contractors, and the management team
Able to work on long-term projects, set interim goals, and meet milestones
Can embrace new ideas and can work effectively both independently and in a team environment
Has good writing and computer skills
Effective use of adaptive management to prioritize work and respond to the needs of the program
Ability to interact with water program staff, manage contracts and projects, and coordinate work to address a diversity of water quality standards needs
Has a broad perspective and strategic vision for environmental program implementation
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree
A valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
6+ years of engineering experience
Preferred
Environmental Engineer Team Lead: Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree, a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and 6+ years of engineering experience
Environmental/Natural Resources Specialist Supervisor: Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years of experience
