Engineering Inspector I/II - $1000 Sign on Incentive

Responsibilities
Performs technical level inspections of projects assigned to the Utilities Field Services Division
Supervises and / or performs inspection of projects assigned to ensure compliance with contract documents, approved design plans and specifications, and applicable regulations
Reads and interprets design plans and specifications
May make field changes that do not alter the scope and cost of construction
May schedule and observe contractor's materials, structure and process tests and evaluations
Required to maintain records and prepare inspector reports
May assume joint responsibility for supervising the inspection function in the absence of the assigned supervisor
An employee in this position will be the Residential Project Representative (RPR) and sole point of contact for projects assigned and required to coordinate and collaborate with Contractor, Chief Utilities Inspector, Supervisor, Engineer of Record (EOR), OCU Engineering, OCU Field Services, Customer Service and/or all other County Departments
Schedules, observes, and approves contractor¿s materials, installation and verification testing of assets including coordination of laboratory or onsite field testing as required for civil and mechanical construction per Orange County Standards and Specifications
Responsible to prepare and maintain daily report, photographic record and red line drawings/specs to document all deviations, conflicts, changes and clarifications for the project
Maintain electronic and physical filing system of project documentation including shop drawings/submittals, Contractor Requests for Information (RFI¿s), Contractor Noncompliance Notices (NCN¿s), Contractor Request for Proposed Changes (RPC)¿s/change orders, pay applications, testing logs/reports, etc
Utilities employees are essential First Responders per F.S. 403.865 and mandated to report to work during emergencies
Qualification
Required
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license and obtain a Florida Driver's License by date of hire
Graduation from high school or equivalent and two (2) years of engineering or construction experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education or experience on a year for year basis
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Required to satisfactorily complete the Contractor's Underground Utility Examination for Inspector within two (2) years of hire date
Graduation from high school or equivalent and four (4) years of appropriate engineering or construction experience based on area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of related education, training or experience on a year for year basis
Must have satisfactorily completed the Contractor's Underground Utility Examination for inspectors or must complete within six (6) months of entry into the position
Must have the ability to communicate with the general public while discussing, explaining and interpreting standards and codes
Preferred
Inspection Experience in: Utilities, Roadways (concrete, asphalt), Electrical, Plumbing, or Geotechnical Inspections
Experience reading and interpreting plans and specifications to be able to apply it to an infrastructure
Experience working with contractors
Experience in the field
