Responsibilities
Advise high-load customers on utility tariffs, rate structures, and cost-of-service implications for large electric demand
Negotiate special contracts, economic development rates, and load-retention agreements with electric utilities
Prepare company for testimony before public utility commissions in rate cases, interconnection disputes, and tariff proceedings
Counsel on transmission and distribution service, including demand charges, capacity obligations, and congestion costs
Support siting and interconnection of large loads, on-site generation, and behind-the-meter resources
Analyze regulatory risks associated with load growth, grid constraints, and utility infrastructure upgrades
Advise on demand response, interruptible load programs, and load-flexibility arrangements
Draft and negotiate power supply agreements, interconnection agreements, and utility service contracts
Assess compliance with federal and state energy regulations, including FERC, NERC, and state PUC requirements
Advocate for company interests in integrated resource planning (IRP) and grid modernization proceedings
Qualification
Required
Bar admission in any US state, active and in good standing
Excellent communication skills - a writing sample will be requested
Preferred
Both law firm and in house experience representing clients in electricity matters is preferred
