Start in 2026 SummerAustin American-Statesman is seeking two budding digital journalists to join SFGATE for the summer of 2026. The interns will immerse themselves in digital media operations, contribute to the news cycle, and gain real-world experience through various content-related tasks.

Assist with various curation and content-related tasks in all sections of the site
Story research
Article packaging
Social media responsibilities
Getting photos in the field
Attending press conferences
Occasionally write stories, as needed and as a development opportunity
Qualification
Required
Must be a current student in UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism
Interns will work 30 hours a week for 8.5 weeks, June-August 2026
Passion for journalism and the internet, including keeping a pulse on what's trending
Knowledge of the Bay Area
Ability to quickly grasp new concepts
Strong attention to detail
Familiarity with online publications
Experience at a school newspaper/magazine or similar publication
Enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn
Familiarity with social media, particularly Twitter, Instagram and Reddit
