The California Department of Social Services is seeking a Research Data Specialist II to help build the Department's Enterprise Data Pipeline. The role involves developing and maintaining automated data pipelines using SQL and Python, collaborating with IT professionals and program stakeholders to design innovative data solutions that support vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

Build data pathways for CDSS's administrative data, spanning food security, anti-poverty alleviation, child care, child welfare and foster youth, housing and homelessness, and adult protective services
Transform data into the curated tables that CDSS researchers can use to drive insights to improve service delivery, breaking policy silos by breaking data silos
Use SQL and Python to develop and maintain automated data pipelines within our cutting-edge cloud data warehouse, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of data products that drive critical decision-making
Collaborate closely with IT professionals and program stakeholders to design innovative data solutions, designing and implementing data automation solutions for reporting, experimental research, and dashboards

Required

Technical experience building/coding the design of data pipelines to support statistical research, including automating the extract, transform, and load process, the curation of analytic tables, and the automated flow of data out to another environment
Experience with coding languages used for data pipelines
Experience working in various data environments
Experience designing and/or building a data product (dashboard, report, analysis dataset, etc.)
Strategy for ensuring the success of data projects
Ability to describe challenges or obstacles faced in data projects and the outcomes
Completion of employment history on the application form (STD 678)
Unofficial transcripts for verification if meeting minimum qualifications with education
Ability to provide official transcripts at the time of hire if selected
Submission of a Statement of Qualifications or Supplemental Questionnaire along with the application
