Senior Benefits Specialist
Confidential Company is seeking a Senior Benefits Specialist responsible for managing and administering employee benefits programs. This role involves strategic oversight and hands-on execution to ensure competitive and compliant benefits offerings aligned with company goals.
Responsibilities
Develop and administer comprehensive employee benefit programs, including health insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, flexible spending accounts (FSAs), health savings accounts (HSAs), commuter benefits, wellness programs, and 401k plans
Serve as the primary point of contact for all employee benefit inquiries, including running onboarding sessions, ongoing employee education, resolving escalated benefits issues, and managing the benefits alias
Stay current with U.S. healthcare compliance laws and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, ERISA, ACA) and ensure all benefit practices adhere to these standards
Manage compliance-related matters, including completing Form 5500s, handling non-discrimination testing, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations
Coordinate with external vendors to facilitate compliance tasks where necessary
Liaise with external benefits vendors, ensuring the accurate delivery of services and resolving any issues that arise
Provide necessary reports for allocation and billing charges related to benefits programs
Regularly review and monitor benefit eligibility reporting to ensure accuracy within our internal HRIS system and with external vendors
Handle various ad hoc projects as needed to support the organization’s evolving needs
Lead the annual benefits renewal process, including benchmarking, plan design analysis, cost modeling, and employee communications
Drive employee engagement with benefits programs by developing clear, accessible communications, FAQs, and training resources
Evaluate vendor performance through regular audits, service-level agreements (SLAs), and employee feedback to ensure high-quality service delivery
Partner with Payroll and Finance teams to reconcile benefit deductions and resolve discrepancies
Analyze benefits utilization data to identify trends, recommend program improvements, and optimize cost-effectiveness
Prepare materials and deliver presentations for leadership on benefit program effectiveness, costs, and employee satisfaction metrics
Qualification
Required
4-7 years of experience in employee benefits or a related field, with a preference for experience in self-insured health plans
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
Familiarity with the U.S. healthcare system and experience administering health plans across multiple states
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
High level of personal integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations
Ability to work independently, taking initiative with minimal supervision
