50-100% PA/ARNP Hospitalist - General Internal Medicine (MCD)

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a PA/ARNP to provide medical care and management for patients in the Internal Medicine department. The role involves independent planning and delivery of health care for hospitalized patients, focusing on improving resource utilization and providing personalized care.

Research

Responsibilities

Perform /order medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribe, dispense or deliver medication
Oversee admissions and new consultations
Consult/collaborate with other care team members
Use judgment to apply/adopt information within total clinical picture to address health issues
Influence others to adopt best practices
Staff the Internal Medicine service lines including nights and weekends
Complete patient medical records, reports, and forms to record treatment for treatment record and billing purposes
Provide health education to patients and medical education to health professions students and residents
Participate in ongoing research and professional development of self and other staff
Establish and maintain procedures and systems to assure compliance with policies and standards of care. Initiate corrective action as needed
Assure team provides effective collaboration/communications
May provide feedback and coaching to other team members to assure quality of care

Required

Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA
A Master's degree is required
A Master's degree in Nursing is preferred
If a Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required
Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required
Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa is required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives

Preferred

Experience providing overall medical care and providing medical management for adult patients in a General Internal Medicine inpatient setting is highly desirable
Reasonable (1-3 years) experience in area of Internal Medicine clinical practice or previous experience in specified hospital specialty area or demonstrated knowledge of area of clinical practice is required
Experience exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided is highly desirable
Experience managing length of stay, improve resource utilization and decrease costs to patients and the institution while providing personalized care is highly desirable
Experience with the evaluation and treatment of General Internal Medicine patients and the supervision of General Internal Medicine procedures is highly desirable
