Responsibilities
Supervising inspectors and office engineers engaged in construction projects
Providing technical inspection support for traffic signals, signing, lighting, and ITS construction
Coordinating power service with utility companies and conducting field reviews
Performing spot checks of construction sites and identifying construction-related issues
Validating Inspectors’ Daily Reports (IDR)
Negotiating pay items and approving invoices
Verifying that materials comply with applicable standards and contract documents
Initiating change orders and overseeing sketchbook submittals
Preparing and providing weekly project status reports and tracking project schedules and completion dates
Qualification
Required
Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university
Five (5) years of experience in professional engineering
Two and a half (2 ½) years of the required experience must have involved the construction, design, and/or maintenance of transportation infrastructure
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland
The selected candidate must possess the following certifications within one (1) year of hire: MDOT SHA Traffic Control Manager, Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) Erosion and Sediment Control Certification, MDOT SHA Erosion and Sediment Control Certification, International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Technician Level I and/or II, ACI Concrete Field Technician Grade I (or equivalent)
Preferred
Strong background in electrical engineering/electrician/electronics, including hands-on field experience
Strong construction project engineering and construction management background
Thorough knowledge of traffic signal systems and transportation-related construction practices
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and a strong commitment to construction quality
Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to provide effective internal and external customer service
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate processes and develop improvement techniques
