Technical Leadership Advisor - Oracle Database
The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Silicon Valley Chapter is seeking a Technical Leadership Advisor with a strong background in Oracle database technologies. This role involves providing technical and business insights to guide Oracle's database offerings into future technologies, requiring expertise in various RDBMS platforms and experience in cloud-native architectures.

Responsibilities
Demonstrate strong technical and business inputs to prioritize the most important work that will see through Oracle's database offerings into future states of technology
Deep hands-on experience with major RDBMS platforms
Database architecture and performance tuning experience
Data modeling (OLTP and OLAP) and strong SQL/query optimization background
Experience with high availability, replication, disaster recovery, and backup strategies
Understanding of NoSQL vs RDBMS trade-offs, for broader context
Experience in migration strategies (e.g., Oracle to PostgreSQL, on-prem to cloud)
Experience designing data architectures for enterprise-scale applications
Familiarity with data governance, data lineage, and compliance (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.)
Ability to assess and align technology decisions with business objectives
Comfortable evaluating buy vs build decisions and vendor solutions
Acts as a force multiplier for the CTO or Chief Architect
Capable of leading initiatives and coordinating between multiple technical teams
Strong written and verbal communication skills — can produce executive-level artifacts and detailed technical docs
Cross-functional influence – can work across engineering, operations, product, and even customer-facing roles
Excellent at prioritization, project planning, and follow-through
Trusted advisor to senior tech leaders
Able to mentor engineers and drive alignment without direct authority
Strong meeting facilitation and conflict-resolution skills
Diplomacy and discretion — can handle sensitive conversations and decisions
Qualification
Required
10–20+ years in software engineering / database administration / data architecture roles
Previously a Principal Engineer, Database Architect, Data Platform Lead, or Engineering Manager for data-heavy systems
Experience in cloud-native architectures (AWS/GCP/Azure), especially with managed RDBMS services
Comfortable reading different coding languages such as C or C++
Deep Hands-on Experience With Major RDBMS Platforms: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, DB2, or newer cloud-native RDBMS like Amazon Aurora, Google Cloud Spanner, or Azure SQL
Database architecture and performance tuning experience
