Electrical Manager; Diesel

Responsibilities
Lead and manage all electrical operations for the Engines Group, including bench and field activities supporting diesel engine controls, automation systems, and generator sets
Supervise and mentor a team of electrical technicians, foremen, and field service personnel to ensure high-quality, safe, and timely work execution
Plan, schedule, and coordinate electrical testing, calibration, and troubleshooting on propulsion control systems, monitoring systems, and auxiliary equipment
Ensure compliance with U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and OEM technical requirements, including adherence to MIL-SPEC and NAVSEA standards
Support engine overhauls and new installations by managing electrical wiring, sensors, control panels, and system integration
Interface directly with customers, OEM representatives, and internal engineering to resolve electrical and automation issues
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and test documentation for electrical systems
Oversee configuration control, calibration records, and electrical QA documentation in accordance with FMS’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System
Collaborate with the mechanical and controls engineering teams to ensure complete and compliant system operation
Provide technical input and labor estimates for project proposals and service quotes
Maintain a strong focus on electrical safety, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering preferred; equivalent experience considered
Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical engineering or other work involving marine electrical systems, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management capacity
Hands-on experience with marine propulsion, generator control, and automation systems (e.g., Woodward, Siemens, ABB, or similar)
Strong understanding of U.S. Navy shipboard electrical standards, schematics, and control architectures
Proven ability to lead technical teams in both shop and field environments
Skilled in electrical and electronic systems troubleshooting, diagnostics, and calibration
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ERP or project tracking systems a plus
Ability to access machinery spaces, climb ladders, and work in confined or noisy environments typical of shipboard and engine test facilities
Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods during inspections or field work
Ability to work in a seaborn environment
Preferred
Familiarity with diesel engine systems (MTU, Cummins, Caterpillar, Isotta Fraschini, etc.) strongly preferred
