Research Administration & Donor Relations Specialist Ld / Sr
The University of Michigan's Frankel Institute for Heart and Brain Health is seeking a Research Administration and Donor Relations Specialist to collaborate with the Managing Director on advancing faculty research funding and maintaining fiscal health. This role involves supporting faculty with funding opportunities, managing complex grants, and overseeing donor relations.

Responsibilities
Assist faculty and staff in navigating Medical School and University resources
Produce complex budgets, detailed budget justifications, and cost documentation as required by stakeholders
Support faculty in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities from private, industry, foundation, and federal sponsors, as well as internal funding sources
Collaborate with Department Administrators and various process partners to track and manage funding activities
Guide faculty on appropriate budgeting practices and financial management
Work with Research Administration staff within the faculty department to interpret and act upon requirements outlined for various agreement types
Provide support to Research Administrators in managing complex and multi-PI grants, including both pre- and post-award phases
Ensure compliance with federal, sponsor, and University requirements, regulations, and deadlines
Serve as liaison with internal and external sponsors/stakeholders, including units such as ORSP, Sponsored Programs, and Innovation Partnerships
Assist the Managing Director with the annual budgeting process for the Frankel IHBH
Monitor Frankel IHBH budgets and generate regular financial reports
Review and approve various transactions (effort changes, reimbursement reports, HSIP, etc.)
Maintain accurate tracking and documentation for planning and research-related costs
Develop and update an active database of all Frankel IHBH commitments
Serve as the main contact and approver for the ordering system and expense reports, escalating issues to the Managing Director or Director as needed
Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of the institute’s research metrics
Perform other duties as assigned
Develop and maintain an active database of all Frankel IHBH gifts and donor communications/engagements
Serve as the primary contact with Development liaison
Prepare complex budgets, detailed justifications, and cost documentation required for annual reports and quarterly donor updates
Qualification
Required
Lead: Bachelor's degree with seven (7) or more years of progressive grant, finance, research and contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Senior: Bachelor's degree with five (5) or more years of progressive grant, finance, research and contract experience or research equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience managing complex projects
Proven ability to work independently and deliver high quality results under pressure and strict deadlines
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff in a multifaceted research environment
Strong commitment to working in a team oriented, service-based environment
Preferred
Familiarity and experience with U-M administrative systems such as Business Objects, Tableau, eResearch, M-Reports, etc
Knowledge of biomedical-related research activities and funding sources, particularly NIH, and University policies and procedures
