HBCU Project Management Intern

The N.C. Department of Information Technology is seeking Project Management Interns for their Project Management Office. Interns will support enterprise-level initiatives focused on IT expenditure reporting and application portfolio management while gaining practical experience in project management principles.

Responsibilities

Support project managers and portfolio managers in a project coordinator role, assisting with project planning, scheduling, task tracking, and documentation
Participate in a coordinated, cross-department effort to establish repeatable processes for application cost reporting, portfolio analysis, and application rationalization
Assist with meeting facilitation, status tracking, and preparation of project artifacts, reports, and presentations for stakeholders
Monitor project performance indicators and help track progress against schedules, resources, and deliverables
Collaborate daily with PMO staff, IT teams, and business partners to ensure timely execution of assigned tasks
Utilize tools such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Microsoft Project, Power BI, and OrbusInfinity (training provided as needed)

Required

Must be a currently enrolled full-time student in a bachelors, masters, or professional level program at an accredited or recently graduated from a North Carolina Historically Black College/University (HBCU) or Minority Serving Institution (MSI) by May 2026
24 credit hours completed
Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 (on 4.0 scale)
Has legal right to work in the U.S. and do not need sponsorship

Preferred

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Teams and SharePoint
Familiarity with Microsoft Project, Power BI, or other project management tools is preferred but not required
Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
Interest in project management, business analysis, or IT portfolio management
Technical aptitude or coursework is beneficial but not mandatory
