Staff Psychologist-Primary Care Mental Health Integration

Responsibilities

Conducts brief, focused functional assessments (e.g., 30 minutes or less) to assess substance use concerns and triage/refer to specialty care as appropriate. Apply principals of population-based care (defines role and identifies problems rapidly)
Uses brief measurement-based care assessments routinely (e.g., BAM-IOP, PHQ-9, PCL-5, AUDIT C etc.)
Bases initial consultation appointments on the PCMHI Functional Assessment model and develops recovery-oriented treatment goals based on functional outcomes
Maintains daily same day access slots
Regularly reviews schedule/grid and works to maintain next available "scheduled" appointment within two weeks
Provides brief, time-limited, evidence based mental and behavioral health interventions (e.g., 1-6 sessions) in both individual and group therapy formats
Coordinates daily with PACT teams to coordinate population level based care
Frequently screens for safety concerns and assists in safety planning with veteran while also determining disposition of care for veteran
Frequently consults with PACT teams on safety assessments as needed
Completes all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system, as appropriate
Completes Phase I & II of VA PCMHI standardization training within first year of employment, if available
When opportunities are available and it is deemed clinically appropriate, provides clinical supervision to pre-doctoral practicum students in clinical/counseling psychology, pre-doctoral psychology interns, and post-doctoral psychology fellows
When opportunities are available and it is deemed clinically appropriate, supports activities of Psychology Training Program and participate in relevant educational seminars
When opportunities are available and it is deemed clinically appropriate, it participates in improvement of clinical supervision skills
When opportunities are available and it is deemed clinically appropriate, it provides training and guidance to other behavioral health staff in primary care settings. Engages in thoughtful level-of-care decision-making and triages appropriately and efficiently to specialty mental health services

Required

U.S Citizen: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed
Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed & that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed
Hold a full, current, & unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia
Must be proficient in written and spoken English
All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
Subject to background/security investigation
Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
