ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT - EXHIBITS

The City of Houston is a forward-thinking library organization serving a diverse population. They are seeking an Administrative Assistant for the Curator of Exhibits, responsible for providing administrative support, assisting with exhibitions, and managing correspondence and schedules.

Responsibilities

Provides assistance to HPL Curator including compiling information and data
Assists with research, planning, and organization of exhibitions
Write, edit, and assist in the production of exhibition-related materials, including gallery guides and extended object labels
Drafts correspondence, loan correspondence with collectors and artists, related programming, maintaining exhibition schedules, budgeting, and special projects
Assists with light preparatory work, installation and de-installation of exhibitions in the Julia Ideson Building, the Gregory Campus, and various neighborhood libraries
Assists with budget preparation and monitoring
Performs other duties as necessary to support the curator
May require occasional Saturdays or evenings for programs, tours, or receptions

Required

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Liberal Arts, or a related field
One (1) year of administrative experience is required. Professional administrative experience may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-for-year basis
Position requires stooping and bending; lifting of library materials up to 20 pounds
Must be able to move freely throughout the library to file/retrieve library materials
Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing

Preferred

Demonstrated ability to work independently to complete tasks/projects and manage projects simultaneously
Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills
Proven experience working collaboratively and proven experience achieving results
Strong proficiency in using office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Strong organizational and time management skills
Knowledge of Houston and Texas History, African American Studies, and/or Latino or Hispanic Studies a plus
Knowledge of SketchUp, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop a plus
A valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2) preferred
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6
