Postdoctoral Associate (Neurology)
The University of Miami is a leading academic medical center providing patient care and conducting groundbreaking research. The Postdoctoral Associate will perform scientific research under supervision, contributing to studies in neurology, particularly focusing on stroke and vascular cognitive impairment.

Responsibilities
Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned
Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing
Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories
Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories
Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets
Perform and develop individual research projects on stroke and vascular cognitive impairment
Perform rodent and canine stroke endovascular surgeries (reversible middle cerebral artery occlusion model)
Work with and deliver stem cells
Perform molecular neurobiology experiments on rodent, canine as well as human tissue
Perform in-vitro cell culture experiments
Be constantly willing to learn new scientific techniques and ideas
Demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills
Fellow will be mentored and encouraged to write and pursue post-doctoral research fellowships
Must be able to develop independent research projects, research design, execute experiments, record research findings, analyze data, interpret results and present them well (analytical and critical thinking is important)
Experience working in a stroke or dementia lab, doing stroke surgeries (MCAO model), other vascular surgeries, molecular biology experiments (western blotting, RT-PCR, RNA-DNA isolation, immunofluorescence, histology, etc.), is preferred
Write manuscripts and publish in peer-reviewed journals
Attend and present at regional, national and international meetings
Candidates with expertise in MCAO and other vascular large and small animal surgeries are encouraged to apply
Be able to execute independent projects as well as communicate effectively with PI/faculty for guidance
Must have very good science-writing skills
Must be able to organize and manage multiple projects with high efficiency
Be willing to work on and develop projects at the cusp of clinical and pre-clinical research (translational work)
Be willing to train other junior laboratory personnel as required
Be involved in lab management tasks as needed
Work cooperatively in a laboratory setting and be willing to work occasional flexible hours as needed
Be proficient with use of computers, Microsoft office, remote meeting tools, willing to learn analytical software/s used in the lab, as needed
Demonstrate excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills
Must have excellent organizational skills
Be an extremely good team player
Qualification
Required
MD or Ph.D. in relevant field
Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions
