Cloud and DevOps Engineer

Circular Materials is a national not-for-profit producer responsibility organization that supports producers in meeting their extended producer responsibility obligations across Canada. The Cloud/DevOps Engineer will design, implement, and operate scalable, secure, and highly available AWS cloud infrastructure to support the Data Warehouse project, ensuring high reliability and performance for business-critical applications and data workflows.

Responsibilities

Design, deploy, and operate Amazon Redshift clusters and data warehouse architectures
Build and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform, following GitHub-based workflows and CI/CD best practices
Implement and operate AWS Landing Zones and multi-account AWS environments
Design and maintain AWS Organizations, OUs, SCPs, and governance guardrails
Design and maintain AWS networking components (VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, connectivity patterns)
Support, monitor, and optimize data pipelines using AWS Glue and Apache Airflow
Implement security and governance best practices, including IAM, tagging strategies, cost allocation, and access controls
Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and data platform issues in production environments
Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, security, and platform teams to improve reliability, scalability, and performance
Maintain documentation and contribute to shared infrastructure standards, patterns, and best practices
Work closely with our security and compliance teams to ensure cloud solutions adhere to company policies and regulatory standards, implementing best practices for data security and protection (SOC2 compliance)
Monitoring and Optimization: Set up initial monitoring, logging, and alerting systems with new AWS services, to track performance and ensure high availability of cloud resources. Optimize cloud services to balance performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness
Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with cloud technology advancements and recommend enhancements to improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency of our cloud infrastructure

Required

+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
+ 5+ years of hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure in production
+ Proven experience working with AWS Landing Zones and AWS Organizations (OUs)
+ Strong experience with Amazon Redshift and enterprise data warehousing concepts
+ Proven Terraform experience managing AWS infrastructure at scale
+ Solid understanding of AWS networking and cloud security fundamentals
+ Experience with GitHub-based workflows (pull requests, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines)
+ Production experience with AWS Glue and Apache Airflow

Preferred

+ Terraform certification (HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate or higher)
+ One or more AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, Data Analytics)
+ Experience with AWS cost management, CUR, and tag-based cost allocation
+ Experience supporting cloud platforms in enterprise or regulated environments
