The role involves leading technical reviews of migration plans, analyzing application ecosystems, and translating technical findings into business insights.
Information Technology
Responsibilities
Act as a staff-level technical authority for reliability, infrastructure adjacency, and cloud migration strategy
Provide principled, data-driven guidance on migration approaches (rehost, replatform, refactor, retire, retain) across a portfolio of applications
Challenge architectural and migration assumptions constructively, ensuring decisions align with long-term business and operational objectives
Lead deep technical reviews of proposed migration plans, identifying: Architectural risks and implicit dependencies, Cost inefficiencies and hidden TCO drivers, Timeline risk caused by sequencing, coupling, or organizational constraints
Propose alternative migration strategies that demonstrably improve cost, speed, reliability, or all three
Establish standards and best practices for migration readiness, dependency analysis, and plan validation
Analyze complex application ecosystems and shared platform dependencies spanning on-prem and AWS environments
Identify opportunities for decomposition, consolidation, or modernization that improve reliability and migration velocity
Drive clarity around infrastructure adjacency (databases, messaging, identity, networking, shared services) and its impact on migration sequencing
Translate technical findings into business-relevant insights for engineering leadership, product leaders, and executives
Quantify tradeoffs and risks in terms of cost, delivery timelines, and operational impact
Influence funding, prioritization, and sequencing decisions through credible technical analysis
Evaluate post-migration operational models, including observability, resiliency, automation, incident response, and SRE maturity
Ensure reliability goals are realistically reflected in AWS architectures and service selection
Advocate for pragmatic reliability investments that align with business criticality
Partner with product, platform, security, finance, and portfolio leadership to drive aligned migration decisions
Mentor senior and mid-level engineers on systems thinking, dependency analysis, and business-aware SRE practices
Represent the SRE perspective in architecture councils, migration governance forums, and executive reviews
