Warehouse Operations Manager

The Warehouse Operations Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing day-to-day warehouse operations within a high-volume distribution center, ensuring performance and service levels while developing a large workforce.

Responsibilities
Provide full operational oversight of warehouse activities, including receiving, inventory management, order fulfillment, packing, and shipping
Ensure warehouse operations consistently meet or exceed established KPIs, SLAs, and budgeted performance targets
Ensure SLAs are met through close cross-functional collaboration with Planning, Allocation, and Customer Service teams
Oversee wholesale and retail distribution operations, including EDI/ASN processes and integration with customer systems
Manage shipping and transportation activities, including FTL/LTL freight and parcel carriers (USPS, FedEx, UPS), ensuring cost-effective and compliant execution
Optimize warehouse layout, workflows, and material flow to improve productivity, accuracy, and throughput
Create, manage, and balance daily pick waves within the WMS based on volume, labor availability, and priority requirements
Ensure effective utilization of WMS, RF technology, and inventory control systems; SAP experience considered a strong asset
Establish and maintain operational metrics through the WMS to monitor performance and analyze data to understand the overall functioning of the distribution centre
Create and refine KPIs that directly measure operational performance, service levels, and productivity to guide short- and long-term decision-making
Use data-driven insights to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities across the DC
Regularly report on performance metrics, risks, and improvement initiatives to senior leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop warehouse leadership and frontline teams, with accountability for a large and growing employee population
Build a culture of professionalism, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement across all levels of the operation
Manage workforce planning, staffing levels, scheduling, training, performance management, and disciplinary actions with the support of Human Resources
Drive performance through clear expectations, consistent communication, and visible leadership presence on the warehouse floor
Serve as a role model for leadership behavior, professionalism, and company values
Champion continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles, 5S, and structured problem-solving methodologies
Identify inefficiencies and lead cross-functional efforts to improve cost, service, and operational effectiveness
Lead change management initiatives, ensuring teams understand, adopt, and sustain new processes and systems
Use KPIs and operational data to drive continuous improvement and performance accountability
Lead process improvements to enhance operational effectiveness and profitability
Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including Planning, Allocation, Customer Service, and Transportation, to align priorities and ensure service excellence
Partner with third-party logistics providers to optimize cost, capacity, and service levels
Communicate operational performance, risks, and improvement initiatives clearly and effectively to senior leadership
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and customer requirements
Qualification
Required
10+ years of warehouse and distribution experience in a Wholesale / Retail environment, with progressive responsibility at a management level
Proven track record of leading large teams in a high-volume distribution centre environment
Demonstrated strength in building teams, managing performance, and driving accountability
College diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong working knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory control, RF environments, and fulfillment operations
Experience working in an RF (Radio Frequency) environment
Experience with EDI/ASN processes and wholesale distribution
SAP experience is considered an asset
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels
Highly organized, disciplined, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
