Responsibilities
Support implementation of executive communications strategy related to Agency projects and initiatives
Draft, organize, direct, and evaluate all public remarks on behalf of the Agency, ensuring alignment with Agency mission, vision, and core values
Draft speeches, talking points, remarks, messages, internal communications, congressional testimony, and presentations for Agency leadership
Produce senior-level communications products that articulate and explain complex Agency science programs and research findings
Develop communications plans, engagement strategies, and messaging to advance Agency mission and activities
Collaborate with the communications team to ensure message discipline and consistency across all media
Collaborate across project teams to ensure messaging is coordinated, accurate, and aligned
Tailor messaging for varied audiences, including Congress, scientific associations, academic stakeholders, and other Agency audiences
Skill in communicating effectively with tact and diplomacy, orally and in writing, to advocate agency positions; recommend responses to criticism of the Agency’s function or performance; and explain programs, functions, and activities to stakeholders
Synthesize information from internal and external sources into compelling, accurate, and accessible narratives
Translate complex concepts and initiatives into compelling, accessible language tailored to diverse audiences
Edit materials to conform to the voice and style of Agency leadership
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, science, or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of professional speechwriting experience for varied audiences and purposes, including at least 3 years supporting science-focused organizations
Demonstrated experience researching and fact-checking content through interviews with subject-matter experts and program officials
Ability to write seamlessly across long-form speeches, rapid-response press materials, digital content, and internal briefings
Creative and independent thinker with strong research and analytical skills
Demonstrated ability to think strategically while maintaining strong attention to detail
Ability to work with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines
Proficiency with digital and multimedia tools, including PowerPoint, social metrics, video creation platforms, Canva, and similar tools
Ability to work on-site
Disclosure of political appointments, as required
Submission of two writing samples
