RCM Accounts Receivable Supervisor

Responsibilities
Oversee daily AR workflows including claim follow-up, appeals, escalations, and resolution of aged accounts
Ensure timely and accurate claim resubmissions, appeals, and correspondence responses
Prioritize aging buckets and payer categories to maximize collections
Monitor payer turnaround times, denial patterns, and reimbursement trends
Work collaboratively with payers to resolve claim disputes, negotiate reconsiderations, and escalate systemic payer issues
Partner with charge capture and payment posting teams to ensure clean claims and proper application of remittances
Support contract management team by identifying underpayments, non-contracted rates, and payer compliance concerns
Track, analyze, and communicate AR KPIs (e.g., AR days, aging % >90, payer trends, denial rates, recovery rates)
Provide routine reporting to RCM leadership outlining performance, risks, trends, and improvement opportunities
Support RCM leadership AI and automation implementation, updating workflows and report criteria for monitoring success as requested
Ensure AR workflows comply with payer policies, healthcare regulations, and organizational protocols
Maintain accurate documentation for appeals, escalations, audits, and correspondence
Support internal and external audits related to AR or payer activities
Lead, train, and mentor the AR team, including follow-up specialists, denial specialists, and collections staff
Develop team schedules, workloads, and performance expectations
Conduct regular performance evaluations and identify opportunities for development
Maintain high levels of communication, accountability, and morale within the AR team
Coordination & oversight of outsourcing relationship
Involvement in process improvement and technology projects
Qualification
Required
A high school graduate or equivalent
3–5+ years of AR or RCM experience, preferably in healthcare
1–3+ years leadership or supervisory experience in an RCM environment
Strong understanding of payer reimbursement methodologies, denial codes (CARC/RARC), and appeals processes
Working knowledge of medical terminology, CPT/HCPCS, ICD-10, and NCCI edits (preferred)
Proven experience with practice management/EHR systems (e.g., NextGen, Epic, Athena, Allscripts, etc.)
Proficiency with Excel and reporting tools
Preferred
Experience in ophthalmology, multi-specialty, or multi-state environments
Experience with contract analysis and underpayment methodologies
Prior experience improving AR inventory through automation, process redesign, or technology enhancements
