Express Employment Professionals is partnering with a well-established, mission-driven local nonprofit organization to hire a Staff Accountant for a 3–6 month contract assignment. This role involves daily accounting and bookkeeping, as well as invoicing and grant support, contributing to the organization's meaningful work in the community.

Staffing & Recruiting

Responsibilities

Prepare and reconcile bank, general ledger, and credit card accounts
Record journal entries and maintain accurate financial records
Support month-end and year-end close activities
Review and post AP, AR, payroll, and expense allocations
Process weekly Accounts Payable and ACH payments
Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and basic financial reports
Assist with audits and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls
Cross-train as backup support for Accounts Payable and Payroll functions
Prepare monthly and quarterly invoices for contracts and grants
Track grant budgets, expenditures, and receivables
Allocate costs across funding sources and expense categories
Prepare payroll and benefits summaries for invoicing packages
Collaborate with internal departments to resolve billing questions
Maintain organized digital and paper billing documentation

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
3–4 years of accounting experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Strong working knowledge of GAAP
Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP)
Experience with accounting software (Microsoft Dynamics a plus, not required)
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong communication skills and comfort working with diverse teams

Preferred

Nonprofit or grant accounting experience
Familiarity with audits and compliance documentation
