Financial Services Manager
Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland is seeking a skilled and dedicated Financial Services Manager responsible for the overall management of the business office within a Continuing Care Retirement Community. This role ensures the integrity of business office operations, accurate resident billing, compliance with healthcare regulations, and effective administrative support.

Responsibilities
Oversee the preparation and distribution of monthly resident billing statements
Manage accounts receivable, collections, and payment processing
Maintain accurate resident financial records, including entrance fees, monthly service fees, ancillary charges, and refunds
Respond promptly and professionally to residents and family inquiries regarding billing and account balances
Ensure compliance with annual 1099 filings and support 990 return preparation
Review and approve accounts payable invoices, ensuring timely and accurate payments
Reconcile vendor aged accounts regularly
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for executive leadership
Assist the Controller in relevant areas to support the annual operating budgets
Provide variance analysis and recommendations for cost control
Report on the status of the Resident and Vendor aged accounts
Ensure compliance with state, federal, and organizational policies related to healthcare billing and resident contracts
Maintain documentation required for audits and regulatory inspections
Collaborate with external auditors and provide requested records
Serve as the supervisory contact for residents and vendors
Provide clear explanations of contracts, billing procedures, and financial obligations
Handle sensitive financial discussions with empathy and professionalism
Supervise business office staff, including training, performance evaluations, and scheduling
Delegate tasks effectively to ensure smooth office operations
Identify inefficiencies in billing, accounts payable, and related reporting processes
Implement best practices and leverage technology to improve accuracy and productivity
Ensure proper use of accounting and resident management software systems
Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; an Associate's degree with equivalent work experience may be considered
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or business office management
At least 2 years in a supervisory role, preferably in healthcare or senior living
Prior experience with CCRC or long-term care billing strongly preferred
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., MatrixCare, PointClickCare, QuickBooks, SAP)
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling)
Knowledge of GAAP and healthcare billing regulations
Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, including residents, staff, families, external vendors/authorities, and the public
Strong attention to detail in writing, proofreading, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating a cooperative, respectful, and compassionate approach to colleagues and resident care
Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology
Maintains professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations
Physically able to move throughout the workday, including travel between campus locations and lifting items up to 10 pounds using safe handling practices
May be necessary to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations
Complies with organizational health and safety requirements, including vaccination policies or valid exemptions
Preferred
Prior experience with CCRC or long-term care billing strongly preferred
