Environmental Engineer

Domtar is a leading producer of pulp, paper, packaging, tissue and wood products. They are seeking an Environmental Engineer at their Pulp & Paper Mill in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, responsible for ensuring compliance with various environmental regulations and permits within the mill.

Responsibilities

Take part in or lead compliance inspections with State and Corporate
Manage environmental contractors and consultants in your areas of responsibility
Maintain routine regulatory records for permits and environmental programs
Manage mill’s recycling programs, hazardous waste program, and waste shipments and reporting
Prepare regulatory reports, ensure inspections and repair are made in compliance with regulatory schedule
Report monthly data for Corporate as needed, including but not limited to quarterly and annual reporting, and sustainability reporting
Serves as a backup to the Environmental Engineer in regard to daily Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations, DMR reporting and storm water inspections. Be supportive of other environmental disciplines and mill programs (NPDES, FERC, and landfill)

Required

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Chemical Engineering, or a related field
3-5 years of environmental engineering experience in industrial environment
Knowledge of air, water, solid waste, and hazardous waste programs
Familiarity with environmental regulations
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Proven leadership, knowledge and understanding of safe work practices
Demonstrated professionalism and integrity in dealing with others – strong sense of ethics
Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various departments/individuals, regulatory agencies, and the public
Strong technical, analytical, process analysis and problem-solving skills
Ability to make logical/sound decisions and resolve issues efficiently and effectively
Continuously look for and implement process improvements and procedures – must be adaptive to change
Ability to work independently or part of a team
Results-focused, well organized and detail-oriented
Occasional travel may be required

Preferred

Experience in Title V permitting activities
Knowledge of water programs, including WPDES (NPDES) permits
Experience in pulp & paper industry
State Wastewater Operator Certification and/or Solid Waste Disposal Facility Manager Certification a plus
