New Grad, Entry LevelWestchester Medical Center Health Network is seeking a Lab Assistant responsible for all activities involving blood and blood components. The role includes logging-in units, preparing samples for testing, and maintaining laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities
Handles blood and blood products by accessioning patient samples, spinning down the blood in the centrifuge and logging all blood products in the computer
Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment
Prepare solutions used for laboratory testing and procedures
Prepare specimens for testing under the guidance of a medical technologist
Ensures all computer entries are accurate
Places orders in LIS and files various documents
Provides customer assistance by answering the phone for the department
Receives customer orders and communicates these orders to the technologists
Screens all other calls and directs them as appropriate
Qualification
Required
Some experience in a laboratory setting
Any combination of education, training and experience that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to perform the essential functions of the job
High School Diploma or equivalent
Demonstrate competency in routine testing in assigned Laboratory area
Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers
Basic knowledge of laboratory information systems
Ability to organize tasks and projects work without close supervision to complete tasks
