Assistant Director Transportation Engineering
The State of Delaware is seeking an Assistant Director of Transportation Engineering to oversee field operations and ensure efficient management of transportation projects. The role involves statewide control over permitting processes and coordination of utility work, while prioritizing safety and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications
Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations
Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems
Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations
Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities
Plans and coordinates engineering projects
Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance
Develops cost estimates for project time and materials
Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff
Qualification
Required
Possession of a valid Delaware Professional Engineering License OR Possession of a valid Professional Engineering license issued by a proper authority of a state, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, or a province or territory of Canada
Five years experience in developing, implementing, monitoring and managing multi-modal transportation programs and projects
Three years experience in contract administration which includes overseeing the development and negotiation of contracts and bid specifications; managing bid openings; awarding and executing contracts
Three years experience in operations management which includes planning, directing, coordinating, controlling and evaluating operations typically through subordinate supervisors
All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment
Pre-employment Drug Testing: Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States
As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving)
Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire
