Transportation Engineer Intern | Headquarters

They are seeking a Transportation Intern to support the Roadside and Site Development Unit, assisting with QA/QC reviews, updates to specifications, and providing technical support during peak workloads.

Responsibilities
Apply analytical thinking skills to help improve consistency between roadside materials standard specifications and Qualified Products List
Assess, review and analyze Section 9-14 of the Standard Specifications with documentation under listed Qualified Products List (QPL) products for roadside materials
Determine the need for requiring the manufacturer to submit updates for verification of compliance with required testing intervals and acceptance criteria
Review products that may be no longer manufactured and develop proposals to remove on the QPL
Assist roadside and site development staff with inquiries and requests from region landscape architecture offices and other specialty groups
Assist in Plan, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E) development
Qualification
Required
Completion of at least two semesters or three quarters (or equivalent) of study in a Bachelor or Master of Landscape Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) curriculum at an accredited college or university
Understanding of civil engineering principles and practices. Study emphasis in horticulture, landscape architecture, environmental science, or related field
Ability to assess data, identify problems, and apply logical solutions
Clear and effective verbal and written communication with team members and supervisors
Works effectively with others to achieve project goals
Identifies issues and contributes to solutions under guidance
Ensures accuracy and quality in work products
Plans, prioritizes, and completes tasks within deadlines
Adjusts to changing tasks or methods and is willing to learn new skills
Follows standards, safety protocols, and demonstrates integrity
Applies relevant software tools to support engineering analysis and design
Actively demonstrates a commitment to learning and growth
Takes action to meet the needs of others
Preferred
Demonstrated ability to use and adapt to technical software tools to support engineering, data collection, and reporting tasks, including experience with Bluebeam and Bentley MicroStation or similar design software
Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel) and other technical tools (e.g., SR View, GIS software) to collect, organize, analyze, and present data in clear, accurate reports that include tables, graphics, or visual representations
Demonstrated capability to quickly learn and effectively apply new software applications and technologies to meet changing program or project needs
