Intern - General Government

The Town of Mount Pleasant is seeking a General Government Intern to perform administrative and clerical support functions for the daily operations of its general government departments. This internship provides practical experience in public administration and customer service within a local government setting.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Assists staff in the implementation and support of general government administrative programs and initiatives
Provides clerical and administrative support, including filing, data entry, document preparation, and records maintenance
Supports customer service activities by assisting with inquiries from the public, routing requests, and providing general information as directed
Assists with scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and documenting meeting notes or minutes
Helps coordinate interdepartmental communication and assists with special projects or events as assigned
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and complies with Town policies and procedures
Performs other duties as required to support general government operations

Required

High School Diploma required
Rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior with declared or intended major in a related field
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Basic knowledge of office procedures and administrative practices
Skill in verbal and written communication
Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks accurately
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the public
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
Ability to learn new systems, procedures, and programs in a fast-paced environment
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

Preferred

Some college-level coursework in Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science, or a related field preferred
Valid Driver's License preferred
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
