Zoo Exhibit Technician

El Paso Water is seeking a Zoo Exhibit Technician to design, fabricate, and maintain zoo animal exhibits and habitats. The role involves constructing artificial environments, supervising staff, and ensuring safety for both animals and staff while supporting zoo operations.

Responsibilities

Devise, construct, and repair artificial environments, enclosures and displays for zoological park
Prepare sketches, drawings, calculations, and diagrams for exhibits, displays, enclosures and habitats
Build and assemble molds or structures to create artificial rockwork, boulders, trees, waterfalls, ponds, streams, other environmental props, wood, metal and plastic frames, foundations, and structures that may be temporary, mobile or fixed
Prepare concrete
Create camouflage doorways, vents, viewing windows, exhibit and grounds features
Blend artificial environment with natural environment by sculpturing, painting and camouflaging
Refurbish existing exhibits which includes, coating ponds, and other water receptacles, and replacing concrete exhibit work and fiberglass displays
Design, assemble, install and maintain various required opening, locking, security and animal handling mechanisms and enclosures
Install and maintain required electrical or mechanical exhibit or enclosure features
Set up required lighting or other related displays
Supervise and work with metal welding and soldering materials, equipment and fabrications
Provide guidance to staff that assist with projects
Assign and review work
Enforce animal and staff safety requirements
Support Zoo operations, special events and maintenance needs
Serve as lead worker as assigned
Substitute for supervisor duties as requested
Maintain materials, supplies, equipment and work environment requirements
Prepare ordering of supplies and materials and assist in acquisition and purchasing for projects
Conduct research to identify current and best material for projects
Maintain supplies, equipment and materials in an orderly fashion
Assist with grounds and building maintenance, and zoo operations as needed

Required

A High School diploma, GED, or higher
Two (2) years experience constructing or renovating structures using various building trades techniques and materials
Valid Texas Class 'C' Driver's License or equivalent from another state
