WATER & SEWER UTILITIES - PLC Technician
City of Lufkin is responsible for managing water and sewer utilities, and they are seeking a PLC Technician to handle the programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting of PLC systems. The role involves ensuring the reliability and efficiency of water and sewer operations through advanced expertise in PLC technology.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Program, configure, and maintain PLC systems used in water production and wastewater treatment plant applications
Collaborate with engineers and technicians to design, implement, and optimize PLC-based control systems for various water and sewer processes
Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on PLC hardware and software to prevent downtime and ensure optimal performance
Troubleshoot PLC malfunctions, identify root causes of issues, and implement corrective actions in a timely manner
Utilize diagnostic tools and software to analyze PLC performance data and identify opportunities for improvement
Develop and update PLC documentation, including wiring diagrams, ladder logic programs, and operating manuals
Provide technical support and training to department staff on PLC operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance practices
Stay current with industry trends and advancements in PLC technology to recommend upgrades and enhancements as needed
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical education in electrical engineering, automation, industrial electronics, or a related field is required
Minimum 8 years of experience with PLC systems and related SCADA or computer applications in municipal water and wastewater utility environments required
Must possess a valid Driver's License Class C at time of placement
Flexibility to respond to emergency situations and work outside of regular business hours when necessary
Preferred
Knowledge of and proficiency in PLC programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, function block diagrams) and software (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
Knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control principles related to water and sewer infrastructure
Skills in excellent problem-solving and attention to detail in diagnosing and resolving PLC-related issues
Skills in effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey technical information clearly
Skills in strong organization and attention to detail
Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications for PLC installations and modifications
