Responsibilities
Identify mechanical interferences, electrical routing issues, and assembly 'gotchas' before they reach production
Use diagnostic tools (oscilloscopes, custom Python scripts) to validate mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems
Analyze trade-offs and provide high-fidelity feedback to senior EEs and MEs to optimize final prototype designs
Design and build custom test benches and sensing solutions to prove architecture feasibility
Execute high-level electrical work, including PCB soldering, rework, and custom wiring
Own the hardware build schedule, managing internal timelines and external vendors to keep prototypes on track
Translate 'tribal knowledge' into structured SOPs and troubleshooting guides for downstream teams
Act as the point person for supply chain blockers; validate part-compatible replacements (batteries, sensors) on the fly
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
3+ years of technical experience in robotics, automotive, or aerospace industries, specifically in R&D or low-volume manufacturing environments
Proven ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and technical datasheets
Proficiency with shop equipment, including 3D printers and hand tools, including for metal (drill press, bandsaw). Experience with CNC machining is a significant plus
Experience working with AV/Robotics components such as Lidars, Radars, Cameras, and high-performance compute modules
Comfortable navigating and making modifications in OnShape, Fusion 360, or similar CAD environments. Able to design basic parts or jigs
You thrive in high-ambiguity environments and enjoy the 'gray area' of hardware development where the answer isn't in a manual
Preferred
Familiarity with Python or other scripting languages for test automation
Previous experience in a high-growth startup (50-100 people) building a hardware team from the ground up
